As the owner of Gold Anchor Cabins, I have these questions presented to me all the time. My frequent answer is “you’ve just asked me to choose between my children.” I’m very proud of all our cabins and it’s hard to choose one over another. I think we have some of the best honeymoon cabins in all of WV. But there are some differences. Hopefully this post will help you decide which cabin is the best fit for you.
Common Amenities
Before I talk about the differences I would like to point out the amenities that all our cabins have in common. First and foremost, every cabin has an outdoor hot tub on a private deck. Each deck has a covered porch section with seating and a charcoal grill.
“EVERY CABIN HAS AN OUTDOOR HOT TUB”
Going inside, you find each log cabin has hardwood flooring, vaulted ceilings, and picture windows that illuminate beautiful mountain views. Each cabin is complete with a gas log fireplace, an AT&T Wi-Fi hot-spot, an entertainment center with a flat screen TV, DishNet service, a DVD player and a dedicated phone line with unlimited incoming and outgoing long distance.
Each kitchen is complete with a refrigerator, oven, microwave and dishwasher. We provide you with pots, pans, baking dishes, plates, utensils, glassware, silverware, hand towels, paper towels, soaps, dishwasher detergent and a fully stocked spice rack. Each kitchen has a drip coffee pot with Maxwell House coffee and filters.
Every bathroom has a shower built for two and stocked in similar fashion. Each is stocked with towels, soaps and toilet paper. Likewise, we provide linens, blankets and pillows for all our beds. Each closet you will find his-and-her robes as well as an iron, board, broom and dustpan for your use during your stay.
What makes each cabin unique
Now that you know what all of our cabins have in common, let’s talk about the reasons you might choose one cabin over another.
Classic Cabin – a hot tub honeymoon dream come true!
The Classic Cabin is considered by many, the coziest of all our cabins. We did a complete outside renovation last year and added to our rear deck making it over 400 square feet. The new Jacuzzi hot tub is positioned under the canopy of locust trees that gives you great shade in the summer months. We also added a bar height table set and a gated, private entrance to the deck. The front porch has a beautiful view of Mount Porte Crayon, one of the tallest mountains in West Virginia. Classic sits on our main property as the most private of any of our honeymoon cabins.
If you’re looking for the best deck and hot tub area or you want the most private honeymoon cabin, Classic is your best bet.
Queen, King and Royale Cabins – the definition of a luxury cabin
These three spacious honeymoon cabins have every luxury amenity you could ask for. Queen, King and Royale all have the same layout inside and out. As a result, each has a king size bed and a washer/dryer. The bathrooms have heated tile flooring, tile showers and a heated towel rack. Because they neighbor one another they have a similar view. From the picture windows of these cabins you have a view of Weiss Knob, which is the back side of Canaan Valley Resort’s ski slopes. In the winter, this mountain is the first to get snow capped. In the summer you might catch a glimpse of someone hang gliding off the top of the mountain! As a result of floor plan similarity, the most significant difference between these three cabins is the décor inside.

Meadow Cabin – Our premium honeymoon cabin by Blackwater Falls WV
Our Meadow cabin holds a special place in my heart. Jamie and I drove by this cabin for years, always discussing how nice it would be to have it and fix it up to its full potential. Then came the day we saw a for sale sign in the yard. Long story short, we have it now and we gave it new life!
This was the first of our “premium honeymoon cabins”. In addition to the king bed, heated tile bathroom floor, tile shower and washer/dryer we had the room to add a little extra. Meadow’s game room includes a foosball table and a 60 vintage game table top multi-arcade. Another thing that makes Meadow stand out is the size of the kitchen and its beautiful granite counter tops.
Meadow cabin is located in the heart of Canaan Valley on Cortland Road. It offers the best of both worlds between privacy and convenience. The Canaan Valley Wildlife Refuge borders the cabin property so the rear deck and hot tub area has an uninterrupted view of Timberline and Cabin Mountain. At the same time, it is less than a mile from Canaan Valley BBQ and Amelia’s Restaurant so breakfast, lunch and dinner are within walking distance. Meadow is a short seven miles from the entrance to Blackwater Falls. Meadow also offers something not found at our main property – a fire pit in the back yard!
If you want a premium honeymoon cabin with a game room, lots of privacy, great views and is nearest to Blackwater Falls, Meadow is the cabin for you.
Majestic has the best game room and an epic view
Majestic Cabin is the second of our premium honeymoon cabins. The amenities include a king size bed, heated tile bathroom floor, heated towel rack, tile shower for two with body sprays, a washer/dryer plus granite in the kitchen and bath. It sits at the top of our main property and has the best view of both Weiss Knob and Mount Porte Crayon.
When we renovated this cabin a few years ago we added a huge game room in the loft. It has the same multi-arcade and foosball table as Meadow but also has an air hockey table and checkerboard table. The bathroom is the most spacious and luxurious we offer to date. Of the three premium honeymoon cabins, I think this must be the most elegant throughout.

Mountain Mist is elegantly country
This is currently our newest premium honeymoon cabin. Mountain Mist has the same amenities as Majestic (except for an air hockey table) but there are some differences to keep in mind. It is located five miles south of our main property just off Bonner Mountain Road. Its location puts it closer to the Dolly Sods Wilderness Area and Seneca Rocks than any of our other cabins. Mountain Mist is on a gravel road at the top of a hill in a very tiny housing development that has three permanent residents and a few vacation homes for neighbors. Because of this, the front porch offers the most solitude of any of our cabins. Like Meadow, since Mountain Mist is not on our main property we were able to keep the outdoor fire pit in the yard for guest use.
We wanted this cabin’s décor to be unique compared to our other homes. Consequently, in Mountain Mist we opted for a more rustic look with live edge hickory furniture and barn wood accents throughout the cabin. The view from the living room’s picture windows is a stunning scene of Mount Porte Crayon in the background and our neighbor’s old barn in the foreground.

Serenity – will it be the best honeymoon cabin in WV?
There it is. The first time I’ve actually typed the new name of the cabin that was once Pondview! As many of you know already, March of 2020 starts the renovation of this log home to become our fourth premium honeymoon cabin.
Serenity cabin will be a hybrid of the layout of Majestic and styling of Mountain Mist. The loft will feature our best game room yet. For instance it will include a pool table, a modern two-player multi-arcade and depending on space once construction is complete, additional activities for the game lovers. The décor will be barn wood themed with a luxury touch. We have some extra surprises for the bathroom as well! We can’t wait to show you what we have in store for this cabin!
