West Virginia Natural Wonders – Honeymoon Itinerary Musts
There is so much natural beauty to see in West Virginia. That’s why it’s called Almost Heaven. But if you’re honeymooning here and it is your first time in the mountains of West Virginia, there are a few places you simply have to experience!
- Blackwater Falls
- Lindy Point
- Seneca Rocks
- Smoke Hole Caverns
- Spruce Knob

Blackwater Falls is possibly the most iconic and most photographed destination in West Virginia. We are 12 miles south of this natural wonder and I recommend Blackwater Falls State Park to be every honeymooner’s first destination.
Lindy Point is also found in Blackwater Falls State Park. It is a short hike out to this breathtaking overlook but many miss this opportunity because it gets overshadowed by the park’s namesake. Make sure you don’t skip this one!
Seneca Rocks is a glorious rock outcropping that attracts hikers and rock climbers alike who want to trek to the top and see the valley below. Seneca Rocks is less than thirty minutes from our cabins. See more photos of Seneca Rocks in the spring here.
Smoke Hole Caverns is one of the most popular destinations in our area. Their tour takes you through their twisting show cave and into a chamber with the distinction having second highest ceiling of any cavern in the eastern United States. They operate their tours all year long so this is a great destination for any honeymoon in West Virginia.
Seeing the mountains from the tallest point in the state is awe-inspiring. The 4,863′ tall Spruce Knob is surprisingly easy to get to and has to be at the top of your list for sightseeing! This place is worth visiting if you want to see an epic sunset too. Here are our favorite sunset photos from Spruce Knob.

Authentic West Virginia Excursions For Your Honeymoon
Every great honeymoon needs an excursion into something truly unique and authentic to the area. One of my favorites is riding Mountain Rail’s New Tygart Flyer, a vintage diesel-powered streamliner train, along the Cheat River to the High Falls of The Cheat. We offer tickets for this excursion to guests that book with us, we’ll make sure you get the BEST seats on the train! You can read our full write-up on the New Tygart Flyer here.
Zip lining at NRocks, white water rafting at Blackwater Outdoor Adventures and horseback riding at Mountain Rail are also awesome honeymoon excursions in West Virginia as well. But there are too many to list here. If you’re looking for some more adventurous activities near us, I have an article with over fifty recreational opportunities near our cabins here.

Delightful Culinary & Spirits Opportunities
And what about the food you ask? We’ve got you covered there!! The Alpine Lodge serves the best steaks and seafood in the state, Still Hollow Spirits will give you a tour of their whiskey distillery and Purple Fiddle will fill your belly with fresh food and fill your soul with local music every weekend!
