50+ Restaurants – 2021 Canaan Valley, WV Visitors Guide w/ road map

If you’re coming to visit Canaan Valley and Blackwater Falls WV, you need to know where the best restaurants are at. By identifying all of my favorite restaurants on Rt 32, Rt 219 and Rt 33, I present to you Golden Anchor 2020 Cabin’s Food Loop!

Canaan Valley Restaurants

Breakfast Nook

The Breakfast Nook is a fine choice for a quick breakfast and coffee.  The owners run honorable troubled teens program at the restaurant that gives these youths that frequently come from inner cities an opportunity to learn a trade.  They are one of the only restaurants in Canaan Valley that are open every day.

Canaan Valley BBQ

Canaan Valley BBQ is the newest of the restaurants in Canaan Valley.  The spacious dining room and bar is brand new and very inviting.  All of the BBQ is cooked in house in a state-of-the-art smoker.  We’ve had several meals there and have always enjoyed it!  This is one of our top choices for a restaurant in Canaan Valley.

Canaan Valley Resort – Hickory Room

This main dining room at Canaan Valley Resort is a great place for a nice sit down meal.  The food is consistent, the staff is friendly and this is the closest restaurant to our cabins.  You’ll find us there for nearly every holiday for their fantastic buffets!  The resort offers a few more restaurants in Canaan Valley as well. Laurel Lounge has bar food and drinks, Seasons Café serves lunch fare and there are more seasonal restaurants at Canaan Valley Resort’s ski lodge.

White Grass Cafe

Looking for a hearty pre or post-ski snack, a healthy lunch or a special dinner? Dine at the White Grass Café where they are known for their hearty vegetarian soups & sandwiches, delectable cakes & pies, home-baked cookies, and eclectic specialties from around the world. White Grass Cafe is one of the best known seasonal restaurants in Canaan Valley.

Founded in 2013 and located in historic Davis, WV. Big Belly Deli was started with the idea that food should be not only quick, but fun, filling, and inexpensive. This is the only place in the county where you can get a pastrami sandwich and a hard time from a local.

Billy Motel & Bar

We haven’t tried this restaurant but the photos on their website look yummy!  Looks kinda swanky to me.

Bright Morning Inn and Milo’s Cafe & Restaurant in Davis

We consider everyone at Bright Morning Inn our friends.  Everything on their menu is delicious.  They put their own special flair on everything they do from their pumpkin pancakes to their quiches to their hangover sandwich!  They recently extended their offerings with the addition of the café.  There you can get a wide assortment soups, salads, paninis and baked goods and sweets. 

Ice Cream Shop

When owner Bremmen Mathena opens the doors to his downtown country ice cream parlor, the street gets a little sweeter and the smiles come out like spring flowers.  This is one of our absolute favorite businesses in the area.  The owners are awesome and the menu includes all of our favorite soft serve treats.  Make sure you stop by when you’re visiting the Potomac Highlands, get an ice cream sundae  and show these guys some love!

Muttley’s Downtown

Serving Davis for over 20 years, Muttley’s Downtown is your option for a fine dining meal in the area.  Muttley’s is operated by the same wonderful couple that operate the neighboring Big Belly Deli through the afternoon.  Watch their facebook page for their famous $1 per ounce steak night by reservation only!

Sawmill Restaurant

The sawmill is down home country.  Think roast beef, country fried steak, broiled trout and a salad bar.  In the spring, the cook is even known for fixing a mess of 100% West Virginia ramps!

Sirianni’s Café

This is the original, the famous, the landmark Sirianni’s Café.  Do I need to say anything else?

Smokehouse at Blackwater Falls

The Smokehouse is the main dining room at the Blackwater Falls State Park lodge.  On most weekends they have a nice breakfast buffet set up.  For dinner, their menu has some traditional barbeque favorites like smoked half chicken, baby back ribs and beef brisket.  They also offer entrées like chicken parmesan, pork chops, salmon and trout.

Stumptown Ales

I have not been to the brewery itself but I’ve tasted several of their brews in area restaurants.  They are a must-stop for those that enjoy small batch, hops-forward ales.  They invite everyone visiting the area to bring meals from area restaurants and eat them in their tasting room while partaking in their beer.

Trailhead offers locally roasted organic fair trade coffee from Stone Tower Joe & organic fair Trade tea from Rishi.  They also provide local adventure advice and goodies for the trail like muffins, danish, scones and bagels!  I particularly go there for the occasional hot chocolate so I can watch them make it by hand from a chocolate bar.  Sooooooooo good!

Wicked Wilderness Pub

In Davis, Wicked Wilderness Pub is the happening restaurant.  Their menu boasts fun stuff like Reuben Fried Egg Rolls, Peanut Soba Noodle Salad, Wicked Hot Dog, and Jambalaya.  Enjoy a craft beer or craft soda from the bar and stay late on the weekends to enjoy the live music from area bands!

Thomas Restaurants

 The music is always fresh and so is the food!  If you’re looking for live music while vacationing in Tucker County, WV this is the place for you.  In addition to hosting over 300 live music performances a year, the Purple Fiddle is also a casual, cafe-style, “order at the counter” restaurant and bar (beer and wine).  The music and atmosphere is always family friendly.  Follow our friends at the Purple Fiddle on their facebook page to see who’s playing next!

Tip Top

This is a wildly popular coffee shop for the artists in Thomas.  If you’re needing a caffeine fix, have Tip Top fix your next Americano, pour over or chai latte.  On the Fridays, stop in for burger night, choose from a selection of their whiskeys and get elbow to elbow with the wild and crazy local crowd!

Parsons Restaurants

Piccolo Paula’s

Their menu consists of a variety of Panini, Homemade Soups, Specialty Salads, Pastas, Pizzas, Flatbreads, Lattes, Coffees, and Pastries. They source local produce and ingredients when ever possible and we grow Herbs in our local garden Seasonally. They strive to use Non GMO products and offer Gluten Free options.

Alpine Lodge

The restaurant at Alpine Lodge is the surprise you’re looking for. The food is absolutely fabulous! They serve fresh baked bread like my grandma used to make, home made salad dressings, and special features like lamb chops, lobster, duck and crab cakes. The charming country dining room, friendly waitstaff and reasonable prices make this my favorite place for dinner.

Bella’s River Grill

Located in the heart of Revelle’s RV resort, this diner serves American dishes and has a full bar for vacationers on the Shaver’s Fork River. They also have a dance floor that gets hopping on the weekends.

Forks Inn

By Facebook, TripAdvisor and Google’s combined reviews, Forks Inn is the #1 restaurant in Randolph County. Recent features include cottage cheese soup with fresh herbs and crostini, gemelli with ground veal, mushrooms, spinach and bacon finished with a sage cream sauce and parmesan and sautéed red snapper with lemon butter, fried capers, coriander rice and snow peas. Their view of the Otter Creek Wilderness from their deck is also unparalleled.

Smoke on the Water

Smoke on the Water is a Randolph County restaurant mainstay. Besides all of the BBQ coming out of the smoker, they have a nice selection of flatbreads, sandwiches and salads. Sit inside their beautiful hardwood dining room or enjoy the creek from the covered deck. They also have a full bar and frequent live music throughout the year.

Harman & Seneca Restaurants

Asbury’s Restaurant at Seneca Caverns

Alleghany Restaurant

The smallest restaurant on the list in the smallest town on the list! The Alleghany Restaurant is a humble diner for locals and travelers. You’ll always get a smile and a tasty breakfast when you stop by here in the morning.

Camden’s Corner Mart & Deli

This convenience store in Dryfork also has a deli with a nice selection of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Ask Junior you “want what Daniel orders for breakfast” and he will serve you a egg, bacon, ham, cheese and fried onion sandwich on toast! Their potato salad and pasta salad is wonderful too.

Asbury’s Restaurant

Asbury’s is a seasonal restaurant at Seneca Caverns. If you’re planning a trip through the cave, plan to have lunch here because it is wonderful. The dining room is always clean and the food is consistently good. They boast themselves as having the best Reuben in West Virginia and I agree!

Gateway Restaurant

Gateway Family Restaurant has so much soul and hometown pride that they have to be included in my list. The restaurant is located at the base of Spruce Knob and serves a home country menu with entrees like country fried steak and stuffed peppers. They bake all of their own pies and always have a fresh salad bar. The hospitality here is outstanding!

Elkins Restaurants

Venezuelan food and music at El Gran Sabor

Elkins is the nearest large city to Golden Anchor Cabins. They have a huge selection of restaurants so I’m not going to list them all. I will recommend each of the following because I know that they are all consistently serving quality food.

El Gran Sabor is unique in West Virginia. This Victorian house turned Venezuelan restaurant gives you a rare taste of their culinary culture.

We stayed here the second weekend in Aug. We moved to Pa form Georgia and always liked to get away to the North Ga mountains. The North Ga mountains are loaded with cabin rentals for couples. We have been looking for a long time for a cabin get away for couples nearby. There a re a few but, none as nice as these. We are very pleased with the quality and cleanliness and are already looking at booking before the holidays some time.
