Spring Flowers at Seneca Rocks
It is finally spring at Seneca Rocks! This beautiful rock outcropping is one of the most popular destinations in our area. Even though Seneca Rocks is only 19 miles away from our cabin rentals the elevation drop is significant. Consequently, they get a beautiful spring WAY before we do.
My wife and I, jealous of their beautiful spring green and flowers, decided we should spend an afternoon there. The colors did not disappoint! The locals said we almost missed all of the flowering trees as they came out around the end of April. We walked the lower trails, chatted with a few couples walking their dogs and admired all that bright spring greenery! Spring in Canaan Valley is not too far behind with many of the dog woods in bloom and all of the undergrowth beginning to green up but it is so nice to get a taste of the warm weather and outdoor activity early.
Seneca Rocks Trails
If you plan to visit our cabins in early spring, plan on spending a day at Seneca Rocks. Besides the awesome rock climbing and the hiking trail to the observation deck, Seneca Rocks offers a few other hiking trails to fishing and swimming holes on the Potomac River. Seneca Rocks Discovery Center
We also explored the Seneca Rocks Discovery Center while we were there. The Discovery Center is located at the base of Seneca Rocks. It has an outstanding view of the rocks from inside. It is a great place to start your visit of the area. The center offers informational fixtures, a gift shop, classrooms, art displays, and an indoor rock climbing wall to get the hang of it.
The Discovery Center hours are 9am to 4:30pm Open Friday, Saturday & Sunday March 30 until April 29. Open daily from May 3 – September 3. Open Wednesday through Sunday from September 5 – October 28.

Cabin Rentals near Seneca Rocks
From our WV cabin rentals to the base of Seneca Rocks is an easy 20 minute drive. Follow Rt 32 South to the town of Harman then merge south onto Rt 33 East. Following 33 East you absolutely cannot miss the rocks as you drive into town. The Discovery Center is to your right and the Sites Homestead and pavilion parking is to your left.
