Anniversary celebrations are the most popular occasion for a cabin getaway at Golden Anchor Cabins. By far the number one question I receive from my wedding anniversary guests is “Where should we go to celebrate our anniversary dinner near our cabin?” That’s an easy one… Go to The Alpine!
The Alpine Lodge and Restaurant is just seventeen miles from our cabins on scenic Rt 33 in Alpena, WV. The route will take you by two of my favorite roadside overlooks too! This stone house has been a family-owned and operated lodge and restaurant since 1939.

Simply put, if you want amazing food served by an attentive staff in a casual atmosphere, Alpine Lodge is your go-to restaurant. Their menu varies based on what is in season and fresh but always includes seafood, steaks and pasts plus fresh salads with homemade dressings and fresh baked breads. Their nightly features frequently include mouthwatering surf & turf options, lobster, and lamb chops. Plus they have creative appetizers, homemade desserts and local craft beer to pair with your meal!
With a stellar menu like that, you’d think the dining atmosphere would be formal if not pretentious. But that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Instead, the dining room is down-home West Virginia through and through. Fishing poles, muskets, game trophies, and WV antiques surround the hardwood booths and comforting bluegrass music fills the room, that is when a WVU football or basketball game isn’t on.

The restaurant is open for dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 4:00-9:00 and the occasional breakfast on Sunday morning (check their facebook page for features and current schedule)

We just tried the food at Alpine Lodge tonight and I have to say that everything was OUTSTANDING!!! Crab dip, fresh salads, homemade bread, steaks and swordfish… everything was perfect!! We don’t know how we have overlooked this gem in our backyard for so long. We are definitely coming back though!

Highly recommend! This was our first visit and we will most definitely be back! My husband and I had dinner here and LOVED everything. The food was amazing! We have ate at many different places (domestic and internationally) and both agreed that this was one of the best meals we have ever had. Along with delicious food, we had top notch service. Thank you to the staff for a perfect meal!

We had the halibut special tonight which we had asked for on a previous post, it was beyond amazingly fantastic. Then it did not stop there. We ordered the bananas foster over a maple cake with ice cream. Wow is not the word . It was big enough for 3 people. Hats off to that chef in all aspects of a meal. Highly recommend and of course we will go back but we already have several times.
