Are you looking for a white Christmas in a cabin? Finding the perfect cabin to rent for the holidays can be difficult. There is so much to consider and there are so many options out there. Where do you start? I’m Daniel Marsh, co-owner of Golden Anchor Cabins. I’ve put together a list of things to keep in mind when searching for cabin rentals where you can be sure to have a white Christmas.
Make sure your cabin rental is decorated for Christmas season
At Golden Anchor Cabins, we want as many people as possible to enjoy our beautifully decorated cabins so we begin decorating in mid-November and we leave the decorations up until a few days after New Year’s Day.
Each cabin has a decorated tree or ornamented garland over the fireplace, a wreath on the door and other little touches here and there. We also use seasonal scented air fresheners in our cabins to fill the cabin with the smells of the holidays.
Christmas cabins book up fast! Make your reservations ASAP
If you want to book a Christmas Day to remember, you need to start planning when the leaves start turning. By the end of October you can expect Christmas, New Year’s and weekends to be completely booked.
If your schedule is flexible, the midweek dates are a great opportunity for last minute renters! We are always running great discounts between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Don’t forget to watch for special promotions and last minute cancellations on our Facebook page as well.
Check our online calendar for the best prices this Christmas season! Enjoy snowfall from an outdoor hot tub and warm up by the crackling fireplace in one of our cabins.
Choose a cabin company with a great reputation and great amenities
If you want your white Christmas getaway to be perfect, you need to research the cabin rental agency and make sure they will fulfill your expectations. Review sites like TripAdvisor, Yelp, Google and even Facebook will give you some perspective on the property and the management based on previous guests.
The Golden Anchor Cabins is proud to have earned TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence 4 years in a row as well as achieving AirBNB’s superhost status. We carry a 5.0 review average on Yelp, Facebook and Trip Advisor.
This is a note from one of our guests from Christmas last year:
What a beautiful cabin! The attention to detail when building this cabin made our stay here perfection. This was the perfect honeymoon location. We felt like we were in a Hallmark movie – in a cute little Christmas town at the very top of a mountain, where it constantly snows and everyone is super friendly. We enjoyed hanging at the cabin, going tubing, visiting the restaurants in Davis and sightseeing. We will be singing your praises back in Delaware!
The (new) Mr & Mrs Absher
Also thank you so much for having our wedding song playing when we entered the cabin – it was “perfect”. 🙂
One secret to an amazing Christmas vacation is not having to worry about what is and what isn’t provided in your cabin. Each of our cabins have a gas log fireplace, a spacious hot tub, a full kitchen, a luxury bathroom, and a comfy bed. We stock the kitchen with everything from pots and pans to spices and coffee. We also supply the cabin with linens, towels, robes, toiletries and detergent for the washing machine. All you’ll need to bring is your clothes and your food. We’ll handle the rest for you!
Find a location that is sure to have snow and fun outdoor activities
Our cabins are the safe bet if you’re looking for a white Christmas cabin vacation! Canaan Valley sees an annual average snowfall of 128″ With an elevation of over 3000 ft, the average temperature is in the low 30’s throughout December.
With Whitegrass crosscountry skiing opening as early as mid-November, Canaan Valley Resort’s tubing and Blackwater Falls’ sledding opening for Thanksgiving plus Canaan Valley Resort and Timberline’s downhill skiing opening in mid-December, your Christmas getaway will be sure to include plenty of outdoor fun and lots of snow!
And Romance Flourishes…
There’s just something about two people alone in a log cabin with the fire blazing during the Christmas season. Feelings of love cannot help but permeate the air as you take in the snow covered mountains outside your windows and feel the warmth of the fireplace. We cannot guarantee a Christmas exactly like you remember from your youth, but a stay at one of our log cabins is guaranteed to leave you with special memories.
Once you are settled in, a short side-trip to the frozen Blackwater Falls in winter awards you and your loved one with an exceptional picture that is not available any other time of the year. Include dinner at one of the local unique restaurants in the valley and return to your cabin for a final cup of hot chocolate while maybe catching a clear, pristine starlit night. Just wait until you treat yourself to a stay at one of our opulent, luxurious cabins. Romance rules at the Golden Anchor Cabins.
Whether you are just newly married, or celebrating your twenty-fifth anniversary; travel to a unique getaway in our beautiful mountain state of West Virginia. You will be spoiling yourself away from the cares and worries of life for just a few days of memorable enchantment. Here at the Golden Anchor we specialize in romance.
Remember these winter driving tips
Here are some Winter Driving Tips from AAA:
- Don’t use cruise control when driving on wet/snowy roads
- Always steer where you want to go
- Watch weather reports prior to a long distance drive
- Keep gas tank above 1/2 full at all times
- Drive SLOWLY
- Don’t power up hills. This will reduce a possible loss of traction
- Don’t stop going up a hill. Keep a little inertia going while climbing hills
