Iron Bridge Bistro - Dining in Tucker County West Virginia

There is quite a buzz lately throughout Tucker County. Locals are getting wind of the rumor about an outstanding new restaurant where everything is delicious and affordable.  In the spring of 2017 a coal miner turned chef, Todd Zais, and his wife Samantha poured their hearts out into a Parsons storefront opening the fast-to-fame Iron Bridge Bistro.

 

Great restaurant Near Canaan Valley

The Anchor family made our inaugural trip down to Iron Bridge Bistro in late fall.  I love trekking the 17 mile trip from Golden Anchor Cabins to Parsons.  When I have the opportunity, I nearly always choose to travel the twisty Rt 72 river road full of interesting nooks and crannies over the 32/219 route.  While 32 and 219 are Tucker County's main roads, I enjoy the adventurous back road every now and then.  Traffic is so scarce on Rt 72, I've got a better chance of seeing a bear or bald eagle than I do another vehicle.  Directions from Golden Anchor Cabins to Iron Bridge Bistro via Rt 72

 

Iron Bridge Bistro - Part of a Downtown Revival

One of the first things you will notice as you cross the Cheat River in downtown Parsons is the old iron bridge that parallels 219.  This is the bridge that lent inspiration to the bistro's founders when they named the new restaurant.  Rather than tear the structure down when the new bridge was built, the community opted instead to restore and incorporate it into the Allegheny Highlands Rail Trail that cuts right through the middle of the town.  Lately, Parsons is seeing a bit of a renaissance with businesses returning to the once flood-ravaged town.  It is so nice to see the love and care that business owners give to their downtown storefronts.  Iron Bridge Bistro's thoughtful fall staging of pumpkins, bailed hay and mums welcomed us as we arrived.  The restaurant itself is a simple open floor plan making it easy to find a clean and suitable table.  As soon as we were settled into our seats, our waitress was quick to approach us with menus in hand and a smile on her face. 

A Tasty Menu

The menu itself is complete with classics like bruschetta, crab cake sandwiches, and country fried pork steak, as well as items unique to the bistro like the deep fried Philly cheese steak.  Making a difficult decision, I opted for the Caribbean Jerk Grilled Boneless Pork Chops.  That chop was outstanding!  They start by marinating a generous cut of pork in a traditional jerk seasoning.  Then they grill it to perfection.  The chop had a great seasoned crust and had that perfect melt-in-your-mouth juicy goodness of a choice pork chop.  Combating the Caribbean heat is a sweet pineapple mango salsa.  PORK CHOP HEAVEN!

We were so impressed with our first visit that we came back quickly with friends to share our new find.  This time I chose the weekend's special: a surf and turf served with a twice-baked potato and collard greens.  Again, the meat was seasoned and cooked perfect.  The crab cake, which is quickly becoming legend in Tucker County, is full of huge lumps of crab and topped with remoulade.

The flavors in each dish make it apparent that they make as much of their menu with fresh ingredients and prepare much of it from scratch.  They also have a great beer list.  They are open Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri & Sat 4:00 to 8:00, Sunday from 11:00 to 3:00 and closed on Wednesdays. If you're looking for a great restaurant near Canaan Valley, this place has got it going on!

In Parsons, West Virginia, very close to Blackwater Falls and Canaan Valley, Todd and Samantha Zais opened a restaurant in April 2017. After a wonderful visit today, it was very apparent that the world will be beating a path to the Iron Bridge Bistro.
Pull down their menu and study the description of each entree. Regardless of what you choose, you will be presented with a marvelous combination of texture and flavors. Don't put off a visit. It's going to get very, very busy.

I came in from Massachusetts and stayed with my sister and brother in law Christine and Mike Rosenau. My sister and I went to The Bistro for dinner and I ordered the crab cakes, French fries and kale...it was sooo good we went back the next night and I ordered the exact same thing! The best crab cakes I think I've ever had! And the b e s t French fries and the kale.. YUMOLA! Parsons is on the map with any restaurant in Boston! :)
