Common Rafting Questions
What kind of river is the Cheat River?
The Cheat River is West Virginia family white water at its best! The Cheat River is fed by several popular fishing rivers including Shaver's Fork, Dry Fork and Red Creek plus all of the water that Blackwater Falls can throw at it. This makes for great rapids and white water rafting in the Cheat Narrows. Closer to Parsons, the river is wide and flat making for a tube rider's lazy paradise. The Cheat is a rain-dependant river, rather than one fed by a dam. Consequently, all rides are weather-dependent. BOA cancellations due to low water levels will constitute a 100% refund.
What does BOA provide?
Blackwater Outdoor Adventures of West Virginia provides transportation to and from the river, all rafting equipment (helmet, life jacket, paddle & boat), and professional guides to get you down the river. On Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday the white water rafting tour includes a full lunch. All other days include a light snack.
How much time do we spend on the water?
The total trip is 4-5 hours from the time you leave base camp until you return. We spend 3-4 of them on the water. Additionally, allow for 40 minutes of travel time between your cabin and BOA's campus.
What else might we need?
You should bring any medication you need throughout the day, plus sunscreen, sunglasses and a dry layer to put on after the trip.
